Free administration training courses

Skills Centre South West is offering free weekly training administration courses for adults (currently unemployed or are returning to work after an absence) who are keen to secure a job in administration.
The administration course is being run every Monday and Tuesday at the Centre. It is free to people who meet certain criteria:
- eligible for work in the UK
- unemployed
Techniques for working in a modern office
Course tutor, Michael Clark said:
"Anyone who has been away from the office environment for a while could be overwhelmed by the recent technological advances seen in many offices. The style of work has changed considerably in recent years with the majority of work conducted via a computer terminal."
What you will learn on the course
Each delegate will have access to a computer and will learn about:
- diary systems
- researching and retrieving information
- using spreadsheets
- using presentation software
- maximise data security
Help with job and interview skills
Skills Centre Director, Christopher Morgan said "We have been running this course since December and it is already proving very popular. It gives people tangible skills that are in demand in the workplace. We also provide further support advising people on how to apply for jobs and interview skills."
Following the training, the delegates have the chance to speak with one of the Centre's employment officers who will help them identify possible job opportunities. The Centre is liaising with recruitment agencies and Job Centre Plus to identify individuals who may benefit from this training.
Training for success in the South West

South West Minister Jim Knight visited Bristol this month to see how training is helping the region on the road to recovery. The Regional Minister met students and Apprentices during a visit to Skills Centre South West.
The centre delivers free specialist support for businesses and helps local people gain the skills that employers need. The focus is on specific sectors: retail, tourism, hospitality, transport and security.
In support of the Government's Building Britain's Future programme, Mr Knight met students currently on a two-week care course giving them industry training and support in CV writing, interview techniques and help with job searches.

Mr Knight said: "The Government is determined to mitigate the worst effects of the recession. Equipping this generation of young people with the skills that employers in the South West need is crucial to ensuring we do not end up with another 'lost generation'. |
"Skills Centre South West is an excellent example of organisations working together to help local people in Bristol and also help put the region on the road to recovery."
Skills Centre South West Director, Christopher Morgan, added: "We are delighted to welcome the Minister to Skills Centre South West and show him what we are doing to help local people and businesses.
"The centre opened in September and we are already having a very real impact by enabling people to access the kind of training and support that will help them move into sustainable local employment."
